In this 45-minute NGSS-aligned program, we will explore the ingenuity of individuals designing ways to support ecosystems and communities. Students will build upon their own ideas on impacts of one of the biggest impacts on Earth’s ecosystems, such as how to provide food for all people or how to reduce energy use. Students will be challenged to design simple, personal solutions for minimizing impacts while meeting the needs of people, plants, and animals. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, “Widespread use of LED lighting has the greatest potential impact on energy savings in the United States.” Surprisingly, though, LED lights still only constitute a fraction of the lights used in American homes.
